There Was a Time

There was a time when the music was my voice.
I pretended I was heard.
The melody danced on the tune of my emotion.

Romance in notes tuned to the cosmic
dancer, dancing and dance.

Carried in my ears — worn by my heart’s constant caress — familiar to my feet that hear only now a bit.

I pretended I was heard — and I was, if by no one else than me.

So with a full throated, head tilted back, eyes closed these words shout,
no cry, tuneless trumpeting voice, above the quiet sphere of my aged form from my ageless soul.
